a skank-tastic Hallow*tween*

I have been looking for Halloween costumes for the kids for awhile now, and each time I go to a different place having found nothing I liked and feeling a little more trashy for some of the things that I have seen listed for the Tweens.

Here is one for starters, not sure what it is supposed to really be, but I know that I would have never been able to purchase, borrow, or leave my room in this when I was a trick-or-treater.
Next Tween sensation, the Harajuku approach. I don't really get it, but yet again unless I was wearing an over sized bathrobe, I never would have made it out of the house.
Now I know that things have changed a whole lot since I was dressing up and in that age group, but I NEVER looked like these girls, well I still don't I mean I will never have long legs like this girl, but if your daughter told you that she wanted to be a red punk rock princess, with goth glam (seriously the description of the costume) Is this what you would let her parade about in?

I can't find two little costumes for a 3 and 2 year old, but have no fear I have a long list of things that they are NOT going to be for Halloween.

It makes you wonder where all the good taste has gone! What are their Mothers thinking????? I am glad Harry and Gwen have a decent Mother. Good luck finding costumes!

There are things even in the kids section that looked a little too "wench"-ish for my taste! What happened to the good old fashioned days of making your own costume? Back in my tween days my best friend and I decided to be Bill and Hillary Clinton (lol, I was Bill) and pretty much got asked to leave the premises wherever we went in the conservative home state we call Utah. I think people would have preferred skanky and inappropriate to Bill Clinton! Ha ha, good times. I agree, what kind of mothers are overseeing these costumes? But thanks for the heads up, I will watch out for the red punk rock princess with goth glam as I am in the market for costumes and unfortunately DO fit into tween attire. :)
I did see some cute dragon and monkey costumes at Old Navy-and if Gwen has been watching WAY too much Wizard of Oz Target has some very simple witch costumes for $10! You never cease to amaze me with your Halloween costume creativity Lonna!! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Taylor and I were just talking about this. Who decided that Halloween was a free-for-all?? My sister somehow conned my mom into buying her some skanky gypsy costume and wanted gold heels to go with it. I told her she should just wear sandals and anklets (way more gypsy) and she said "no, I just want some skanky heels, plus it will make my skirt shorter". What the heck!? Since when did my mom allow that? Who actually admits something like that? and why in the world is this acceptable?

Don't they talk about this in the movie Mean Girls? Something about "Halloween is the one time you can dress as slutty as you want and no one will judge you"... or something. It's sad, really.

this is awkward - 2 of the 4 people in our family are already planning on wearing 2 of the 3 of those costumes!

I remember the Halloween(s) in our little neighborhood. Dad would wear a long black cloak and hold the lantern and all the kids would end up in his wake what a fun time. It sounds like never again will anyone be safe. I also saw some cute costumes at Old Navy. So have at it, you may have to sew up something yourself. Good luck.

I love Shana and Paige's comments. Yes, shopping for Halloween costumes every year makes me sick when I see the choices.
