Where have all the cookies gone?

What is a girl to do when her husband changes his eating habits? Well I am in this exact situation. James' work has started up a little "Biggest Loser" Competition and this has altered my world as I know it. I was given the orders that in one week the house must be cleared of all of the snickety snacks. No more fun sized cookies, or treasured treats. The chips are out as well as the ice cream...what am I going to do? I am thinking that carrot sticks and broccoli can only hold me over for so long. I think that I might be a treat junkie.

So for those of you who have tried something like this, or know someone that has made these kinds of changes I am looking for some support. Well really I am just worried that I am going to need to start cooking and I have no idea what to do that will be low fat! Yes we could eat chicken noodle soup every night, but I really do like some variety. So if you have a favorite website, or recipe, bring it on. We are in it for the long haul, I know that James is really excited to start this whole competition, so that means that I am in it too. However I have a feeling that James will loose weight and I will gain it. I guess we will just have to wee what goes down.

I think you will just need to have all the snacks hidden before James gets home from work!

But, If you want snacks, just sneak on over to my house. You know I got you covered!

Good for you for supporting James. You can have a secret, small, stash of something you like. Just never eat it around him or leave any traces. Cook your regular food, just cut down the portions. Make things with oil in it and not shortening. Spaghetti is low fat... taco's are good.

I love the Quaker Mini Delights. So good when I need just a little something that can trick me into thinking I am getting a sugary chocolatey snack. Good Luck! I start a boot camp tomorrow and I am super nervous.

I am going to be no help, we eat these things round the clock-pregnant or not!! (Why doesn't anyone ever have a contest called the biggest gainer? :) Well you are great to support James although if during the week you and I run to Amy's Ice Cream, your secret's safe! Plus, we usually have a fully stocked pantry in case of emergency.
My mom always cooks really healthy and I do enjoy her spinach salad-sounds kind of gross but it's so good! My mom has all sorts of ingredients you'd never think to put in salads, like lemon yogurt, spinach, apples, craisins, walnuts. I'm not sure if James inherited the picky eater gene though. That could throw a wrench in things, but Ryan at least likes unique salads.
Personally I think anything you cook yourself will be lower on fat-our downfall is eating out! Plus, fast food's expensive so you may save money in the process. And who knows, you just may feel better! Way to go on eating right.
I keep thinking we need to get around to that!

When you find all of your healthy food, send it our way. I'm always looking for something healthy that Trevor will actually eat. One of my favorites (maybe we fed this to you) is chicken tacos... it's chicken breast cooked in salsa in the crockpot (4-6 hours on low). Garnish with the usuals - cheese, tomatoes, lettuce and replace sour cream with guacamole (I have a great recipe if you want it) and if you want to go really crazy serve them in whole wheat tortillas.

Craisins, fruit parfaits (layer fruit, french vanilla yogurt, and granola), and homemade smoothies (frozen fruit, ice, and vanilla soy milk) are all good treats that don't seem to be quite so bad for you.

Good luck and hide a few things for you for when James is gone. Low fat yogurt can be a good treat for him.

Love,

Grandma H

Lonna, I meant to tell you Thursday that you look like you've lost weight. Could the treat-fasting have worked so fast??? Turkey chili is a great low-fat dinner. I make it with ground turkey, pinto beans, crushed tomatoes, onions (sauteed or powdered), garlic, chicken stock, cumin, ancho chili powder, salt and pepper. It's really easy - and my kids like to pick out the meat and the beans like finger foods. Whatever works, right?

One of my kids' favorite meals is stuffed bell peppers. Do you two like bell peppers? They're fun to make and even to eat. I use ground turkey for them, but ground beef works nicely too. Good luck!

Yikes. I feel for you. It's hard to get the treats out of the house, especially with little ones around. My theory is 'all things in moderation.' Treats are included in that idea. :)
