Today was the pirate party and let me tell you how crazy fun it was. Gwen tested out the cupcakes before the party just to make sure that they were good enough to give her friends.

These were the party favors with fun pirate things like maps, spy glasses, whistles, and candy of course.

Here are the skull and cross bone cupcakes, that made me realize that I am not one who should be doing baked goods decorating, but they were yummy and super moist.

Oh what Gwen eating yet another cupcake, yes it is true sometimes you need a little bit of wiggle room on your birthday, plus I was doing like fifty other things so we let it slide.

All the kids had fun decorating pirate eye patches with jewel, skull, and pirate stickers. Here is Katelin showing off her "bling".

Even Harrison got in on the decorating.

Here is Gwen's finished product, and she will be the first to tell you that she did it all by herself, there is that independent streak again.

Having some lunch, nothing better than that...except for maybe the cake and ice cream afterward.

And everyone was such great help in opening the gifts, it was so fun to see all the kids get closer and closer and closer to Gwen as she opened the presents, and then all of a sudden they were in a little pack -BAM!!-

Then we had to test out the gifts with all the friends, and the results are in, total success. Everyone liked all the presents. And everyone wanted to use the tea set, nice work Paige.

We had a treasure hunt outside that lead us to the pirate that took our treasure, so we brought him back to the house and took turns telling him to give us our treasure...or basically giving him the beat down, and with the final and awesome blow from Tyson this is what he looked like afterward...

It was a really fun and exciting day for us. Gwen was loving that it was her birthday, and loving eating cupcakes. We were so glad to celebrate the day with our friends and family, and talk to some of our family that live far away too.

Gwen got more than her fair share of gifts today, and I have to say that I am feeling pretty good about the fact that we have a whole year until we do it all again. Thanks for all the birthday wishes for Gwen and for all the friends that came to celebrate with us today. Hooray for Birthdays.

Wow! What a fun party! I am so impressed with those cupcakes, Lonna! and the eye patch decorations and pirate with the treasure! Give yourself a big gold star!
What a fun party! I love the eye patches with all the bling!
I thought the party was a huge success. I brought home to happy campers who are still wearing their eye patches! Happy Birthday Gwen. I can't believe she is 3! She's a great girl. She was so nice to share all her gifts with her friends. And she is my kind of girl - I say on your birthday, you can have as many cupcakes as you want!!
Happy Birthday Gwen! Sorry I couldn't come to the family get together..I totally meant to email too. I had vball practice during that time but I would've wanted to be there! Hope it was a good day :)
How fun! You did an awesome job, I hope Gwen appreciated all your hard work!!
oh my gosh Lonna, I'm totally loving the eye patch activity. That is so funny! I was wondering what you were going to do for a pirate party and I see that you came up with some pretty incredible ideas. You are hired as my party planner.
Go Lonna, You have always had a flair for decorating, and I must say you have still got it. It looked like a wonderful party and i didn't see any pictures of kids crying. That is always a benchmark for success. Happy Birthday big 3 year old Gwen we love you. Grandma and Grandpa Dattage
Wow Lonna, I must say you have truly outdone yourself! I think that party went down in history as the twins' most talked about for sure...I am constantly amazed at the things you come up with. I loved the cupcakes, the cute gift bags, and the pirate pinata, what a hit! I think the best part is that it stayed true to what Gwen likes and that is why you are such a great mom. It sounds like you had a fun rest of the day too. I hope you were able to squeeze in some naps after the festivities.
So the girls came home and ran around the neighborhood dressed like pirates for a good three hours! They even hit me up for some buried treasure...how did they know that's what pirates do. And it may be a wrestling match to get their eye patches off for church on Sunday...I'd say they enjoyed themselves. :) Thank you again for inviting us, it was the highlight of the week for sure. Happy Birthday to our lovely little darling Gwen.
What an awesome party. Love the maps, the cupcakes, the eye patches. Nice job!
You are such a great mom...what a creative birthday! Your kids are very lucky, they'll remember all these cool things you do for them forever!
Yes, I had a great time in Texas! So sorry I didn't see your comment about getting together until after I got back! I was in San Antonio for a work conference, and it was perfectly balanced with work and fun. I went with a super fun group of teachers from school, and we just had a blast. It was like a girl's weekend out! Would have loved to see you and meet your cute kids though....maybe someday! And oh, I am oh so jealous of your warm weather there! It's snowing here in cold Logan right now...blah! Serious case of spring fever going on here!
Really cute pictures and it all looked like so much fun. What a great Mom to do all that.
