Independent meets Irritated
You know when you take those personality tests that basically tell you that you are either totally uptight and bossy, or laid back and easy going. I have usually fallen into the mild and mellow side of the charts, however it seems that as Gwen gets older and more independent, I find myself moving to the other side of the spectrum, mostly in the bossy and picky areas.
Here is a recent example.
Me: Hey Gwen lets get dressed so that we can go outside.
Gwen: I can do it.
m: Okay that sounds great.
g: Oh I like this one it is so cute.
m: Lets just make sure that we have a shirt, pants, and socks first, so pick out one shirt that you want to wear.
g: What about this one? What about this one? I like this one. Oh this one is so fun...
m: Do you need some help?
g: No! I can do it!
m: Well lets just pick one.
g: I think I need a dress.
m: Whatever you want, but lets pick it out so we can get going, Harrison is already dressed and ready to go.
g: Alright.
This is what happened after that.

almost an hour later she still had no shirt, pants, or dress on. No clothes. She had emptied out the contents of her drawers and the jammie drawer too. I find that I am getting irritated with her streak of independence. Its not that I don't want her to do things for herself, Oh I do, but I would just like quicker results is all. I know she is a two year old what did I expect, well I guess that I better work on my patience because she is quickly moving into the big girl phase, and showing Harrison how to do things for himself too. I suppose that I always knew the day would come when I wouldn't be able to tell her what she should wear, or how we were going to do her hair, I just thought that I would have a little more time is all. They do grow up so fast.

you are a nicer mom than i am to sit and take pictures. But, I understand where Gwen is coming from. You have to have the right outfit when leaving the house. You never know who you will meet or see!
Lonna, she is 2 going on 16. I swear I have days like this all of the time where I empty my whole closet and still have nothing to wear. She is ALL girl! Good luck with the patience thing, I think that might be my biggest test.
I fear for you when she is a teenager. She'll want more clothes that any of the closets in the house can fit. She is such a cutie. Eric always wants to wear the same thing. He gets upset when his favorite shirt is dirty.
Oh she is SO cute! Here's an idea...put out two things she can choose from, then it won't take so long. but she is so independent that may not work either, but you don't always have an hour to get dressed! She is almost 3 so brace yourself!
The scene won't be any different in 13 years. Except she'll have a panties not a diaper (hopefully!) And a bra. ANd she won't be letting you take a picture.
HA! Boys are so different. My big boys never cared what they wore, I picked out their clothes for them until they were 6. Mosey has a few things he loves, so he'll sometimes veto my choice, but he's pretty noncaring too. That is just so funny that she emptied out her whole dresser!
It is pretty funny, but independence does have it's limits and children of that age really need limits to be able to process things. You may say, today you may wear the red dress of the pink shorts outfit what will it be? Always limit choices to save them and you; but by all means give them a choice so they are empowered to continue in their independence without rebellion. Let me know how it works. Love mom
I like a girl who knows what she wants!1 I am still amazed that she knows how to dress herself!! And more than that she knows where her clothes are! I think Coop thinks that his clothes just magically appear everyday!! Actually if I told him to go and get dressed he would probably head down to the basement and start digging through the dryer...so sad!!
