One super spendy Saturday

Yesterday morning James' cousin got married in the San Antonio temple and we were invited to attend, since that is right in our backyard...well just over an hour away, we were excited to go. Amazingly enough we were able to get out of the house with kids ready and all in time to get down there for the ceremony. However just as we were getting out of the car to walk in to the temple Gwen got her little baby thumb caught in the car door! It was icky and so sad, we then proceeded to load the family back up and head to the hospital, which luckily for us was just two minutes away. While everyone else was head over heels in wedded bliss we were in the ER tacking on some serious payments for our insurance.

After a few hours in the sanitized air conditioned hospital we met up with the family for the luncheon and finally saw and hugged the bride and groom. After lunch we were off to the African Safari...Texas style. The kids are a year older from the last time that we went and they were excited to take part in the process of interacting with the animals. And here is a little of what we saw...

this little longhorn ( who is not that little at all) would have climbed into the car if its horns would have allowed it to. He totally smelled.
Gwen took the wheel with her sad bandaged up hand.
But when we got to the zebras she was out of the drivers seat and ready to feed them everything we had.
one handed or not she fed the animals like there was no tomorrow.
There were a few of them that decided to try to get our attention at the same time, and we almost lost our hands as they tried to climb in the car to get a snack.

After the safari we were on our way home, and to the reception and we stopped to look at some new couches when Harrison pulled over a lamp at one of the stores that we were in, and it shattered! Yet another unintended purchase for the day. We were definitely on a roll. By the end of the night our additions were one injured thumb, one broken lamp, and a whole lot of gas. But that is just the kind of stuff that happens to everyone right? Maybe? Sometimes? I'll just keep telling myself that.

Poor Gwen! I hope her little thumb is okay. That drive through safari looks like lots of fun. I would enjoy feeding zebras from my car window. I'm sorry to hear you had to buy a broken lamp. These little ones sure can get into mischief!

I'm glad to finally get caught up on your blog. I'm so sorry about your Saturday but at least you got to do some fun stuff too. I hope Gwen's thumb gets better and you have a better Saturday next week.

Poor little Gwen, what a trooper! At least you got to have some fun adventures too! My kids would have loved to be up close and personal with the animals like that.

Oh, and I still firmly believe in the e-bay suggestion I made at church today. Try and sell that lamp for more than you paid for it!

I saw Gwen's hand but didn't get to ask what happened. Poor Girl. I do love the safari though!! That longhorn does love to come close to the cars.

I must say those kinds of adventures are what life is made up of! I sure am glad Gwen didn't have a broken thumb.....I remember so well that fun safari...it was great to relive it, at least a little bit again.

oh, I bet that just broke your heart to see little Gwen's smooshed thumb. How sad. Kid's are expensive, that's for sure. Taylor and I are just getting a little taste of it with each hospital bill.

So now we have pictures to go with the descriptions we had and Gwen at this point in the pictures seems to be doing well. Spence wants to know if they check for guns at that safari place. But then again doesn't everyone in Texas have a gun? He says to remind you that where you are we once were and where we are you may someday be. Welcome to the wonderful world of family life . it's great. And just remember you are making memories.

Wow I am sorry to hear about the day that only elevated in catastrophe! We sort of got a play by play as it all went down. My heart goes out to Gwen's poor little thumb, as painful as it was must have also been traumatic. You know if she really wants sympathy she can say it was a result of the African Safari, she's got the pictures!
And the lamp, oh dear. By shattered do you mean damaged beyond repair, or is there some way you can glue it back together in the name of art? You know you and James are very crafty and quite the trendsetters that way. And I'm not sure what it is about Mother's Day that attracts injuries, you may remember Maddie's ER adventure a couple of years back. Yes someday they can all compare scars.
Oh you are not kidding, kids are expensive. I am starting to see why parents superglue their kids back together. Not to mention I am wishing I whould have delivered Liv myself. :)

Poor Gwennie!! That looks really painful, what a bummer! Ever since Coop and I looked at your blog he keeps re-enacting feeding the wild animals, that's what you have to do when you live somewhere lame that doesn't have a drive-thru safari...you have to just pretend!!

I hate it when we have days like that, well, we've never had mooshed body parts, but we have had expensive days. I hope her little thumb is healing up nicely.
