smokers, a word please.
In the last few weeks we have had a lot of new neighbors move in, this is a good thing and a bad thing, first off it means that we need to tone down our wildness in this household, meaning rowdy kids. And maybe we should introduce ourselves just to make sure that they don't hate us when Gwen and Harrison are jumping up and down off the beds at 7:30 in the morning.
I also noticed that quite a few of these people have kids, is that a bonus or a bad thing? Well seeing as the other kids are outside playing while my kids are getting into bed I don't think that is going to work so well. But nice to hear other kids around none the less.
Bad news, all of the parents of the kids are smokers, and I am not talking about just your casual ciggy once or twice a day, I am talking about all the time. Now this is really none of my business and so go ahead and smoke your lungs away, but you make it my business when the ground that I walk on is covered in your cigarette litter. Is there a difference between regular litter, like a coke can or a McDonald's bag versus loads of cigarette butts all over the ground?
Now we have some great lawn and maintenance people here so they do take care of a bunch of the trash, however we have a neighbor that lives just across the way from us that discards her smokes in the breeze way, who does that? Well I am bugged because my kids LOVE to "find" things around the grounds and I don't want cigarette butts to be the treasures that they bring home. So I ask you neighbors is there some other place that you can put your trash?

That is SOOOO annoying, when smokers use the outdoors as their big ashtray.
Oh, nothing is worse than when little kids pick up a cigarette butt. Lonna, I'm sorry, best of luck with that. However, I don't foresee any good way to fix your problem...
By the way, I loved your comment on my blog and yes, that is herringbone print on her shoes. Hazel is already working on her fashion sense... hahah
one man's trash is another man's treasure! jk. i'm not a fan of smokers. especially when they force their habits onto everyone else.
I too think that is really rude to throw cigarette stuff anywhere, let alone where kids can get to it. and they are often nice people too, just a filthy habit they are not thinking about. I hope you get to move soon!
I was jogging with Makenna in a stroller yesterday and a car drove by, she was smoking out the window and we got a big breath full of smoke. I was SO angry. I wanted to flip her off!! URRR! Down with smoking!
This of course is a very tricky situation. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, But, where are children are concerned we mothers can get really indignant. Our job is to protect those children. All i can say is be tactful and if you had an asthmatic child you could approach the situation head on and just say your concerned about the allergy of your child and you would appreciate it if she could smoke somewhere else. but since you are all healthy you'll have to think of something else. Sometimes they don't even realize that it might bother or affect others in a negative way. Like Syl says maybe you'll get to move. Love from the north.
