Monday safari

Have you ever wanted to go on an African Safari, but it is just a little too expensive for the whole family? Well I have the answer to the problem. Just outside of San Antonio, Texas there is a wildlife ranch that is pretty much one of the most fun places I have been. And it is the safari that you have been waiting for. Not only do you get to drive around to see all the big and wild animals, but they also have a little petting zoo where you can walk around with the kids, or adults.

Here is James showing London and Gwen how to pet the little pygmy goats.
Gwen LOVED them. She wanted to pet all of them, even the sleeping ones. Look how cute and cuddly they look. You can feed them as well, Gwen tried to eat one of the pellets, and she spit it out (thank goodness) and didn't try that again.
She was really interested in the goats teeth for some reason, and she kept trying to see the teeth of all the goats. Here she is getting a close up look.
After the petting zoo part, we hopped in the car for the driving part, let me tell you that these animals are real friendly in hopes to get some food from you. (You get the food at the entrance of the park) Most of all of the animals are more than willing to come right into your car.
Here is an American Bison, this picture was taken just outside of James' window.
Wildebeest anyone? They are not attractive animals at all.
Here is how we took the drive. It was so much fun to get everyone together in the van to take the drive. The kids loved throwing the food out the side doors. James was so happy to pet the animals too. And show the girls how great the animals were.
Gwen took a few turns feeding the animals.
Here are some of the female Ostrich's. They are huge! There are signs for this part of the ride that tell you to keep your doors closed and it is a good thing that we did, because these little friends tried to peck the car.
And they tried to get in through the sun roof.
Awww look how cute this little baby zebra is.
And here is one that is half way in the car. James petted them, and fed them, and made them stick their heads in the windows.
Rhinos. Ah the white rhinos, they weigh up to 4,000 pounds. And they are kept behind a few different cages/fences so you don't have to worry about them ramming your car.
We also saw some camels, giraffes, gazelles, watusi, longhorns, springboks, and about 35 other animals too. It was really fun and you can drive the ranch as many times as you like. Here is a link if you want to know more about the SAFARI.

I *love* the wildebeast shot. :-D That is a really cool attraction - we've heard about it since we moved here but now you've convinced me and we are going to have to try it out. And your little Gwen gets me every time. Squeeze her for me, wouldja?

One of my favorite days ever in Texas, that's for sure! I also loved the nuns eating ice cream, I really wanted a picture of that. It looks like you got some great shots of the animals, and I'm impressed you remembered their correct names. And is there anything more bazaar than an ostrich pecking your car? What a great time we had piling into the van and going on a safari. I think I'm going to pull out these pics and remind the kids about the time we went to Africa.:)

The safari looks so fun. We experienced one like that in Southern California years ago. Much cheaper than flying to Africa.

Great pictures.

Love,

Grandma H
