mothers of course

So naturally I feel like I need to talk a little bit about my mom, seeing as it is mothers day.
I did not grow up having everything that I wanted when I wanted it, or with a silver spoon in my mouth as some would say, but I did have an amazing childhood and I have so many wonderful memories of home all of which tie straight back to my mother in one way or another.

I didn't think anything of it at the time, who really does, but everyday before going to school my mom made us breakfast. That is right, I am not talking cold cereal people I am talking about pancakes, waffles, eggs, German pancakes (one of my favorites), toast, orange juice, that sort of stuff, everyday. She was my alarm clock, even if that meant that she was greeting me for the day at 4:00 am before swim practice. It wasn't until middle school that I realized that this was not the normal thing in every home. I thought that everyone left for school having eaten a great breakfast, and their mom wishing them well for the day.

How many projects did she help with, or homework assignments did she explain to me? Too many to count. I remember one that I had to do in 5th grade, we were in the middle of moving homes, and I had forgotten that I had this art project due the next day. Who but my mom came to the rescue, she got me up really early and helped me complete such an amazing rooster picture using different dry beans and lentils, I remember when I handed it in My teacher Mrs. Foster was really impressed. I think that the great grade on that one went to my mom for sure.

Up until I was in the 5th grade my mom was a stay at home mom, and she was there to greet us every single day after school, with a snack none the less, and she was eager and excited to hear all about the things that we had done that day, and all the things that we were interested in. She was a great listener. She still is anytime I need her.

She is probably one of the smartest people that I know. I remember going to and from ballet class, and she would teach us new songs and tell us what they were about, one that I remember being super proud of learning was "Your a grand ol' flag" . She is full of fun ideas, songs, information, a great speller, and amazing with numbers. I bet that I could ask her a phone number of one of my friends from high school and she would still be able to tell it to me.

Always a caring mother, I remember quite a few different dates that I went on that when I got home she would come out of her room to see how it went, and we would talk and talk and talk all about it. She was the first one that I wanted to tell things to. Still the caring mother we talk often and she is always asking if I need anything, and what can she do for me.

The support and constant backup my mom was always showing her support for everything that I was involved in. She was at every band concert, every choir concert. She attended each and every track meet, cross country race, swim meet and state tournament, even if that meant that she had to travel a long way to be there. In almost all of those sports she was adopted by the whole team as our "team mom" because she was there cheering everyone on each time. She knew all my team members by name, and was ready and willing to help anyone who needed it.
I had a few jobs during my high school and college days, and lots of times my mom or dad or both would show up ( at the food job) to have lunch or breakfast with me. Just to let me know that they were thinking of me and showing that they were interested in the things that I was doing. I have always felt that my parents showed such a great deal of love and support for me.

My mom even took on the role of chaperone for a few of the trips that I went on, I was a little nervous at those times, not that I thought that she was going to cramp my style, but you know how it is in school. But I always ended up loving having her there, she and I were even able to go to England together, which I wouldn't trade for the world. ( who will ever forget fluffy).

So for all the times that I didn't take the opportunity to say it here it is. Mom I love you. Thanks for everything, I know that I wouldn't be the person that I am today if I didn't have you.

Your mom sounds spectacular, and it sounds like you have such a great relationship with her. I can relate, my mom is definitely my best friend and I also woke up to warm breakfasts every morning. Thank you Lonna for those very wonderful words, I appreciate them, but when I got married, I thought that is what all moms did. I have been very blessed with wonderful children, who have been a joy to raise (most of the time). I had a very wonderful job then with a flexible schedule that allowed me to put my children first. I had a super supportive husband who was just as excited as I was, about attending the events in which our children were involved. However, he did not have a very flexible schedule. Thanks Kadee, and It is amazing to me that I have to say happy mother's day to you Lonna and Kadee, and Julia, all of whom I thought would always be my little girls. I'm sure you are all wonderful mothers to this new generation of brilliant young people. Press on!!! Love Beryl

I will never forget your mom teaching us how to crochet a weiner dog sweater! Now that says a lot about patience. :) Lonna I loved learning more about your mom and in essence, the parts of your upbringing that make you you! I think you take after your mom in so many ways; the creativity and energy, the enthusiasm for life, the cheering squad for everyone you know, and always a listening ear. All of those talents come so naturally to you and have blessed you in motherhood and blessed those who are lucky enough to know you. I loved this post, it makes me want to be a better person and mom!

ah mah gash, you about have me in tears! How wonderful that you had such a mother! I can't deny wanting to feel jealous (my mother wasn't what anyone would call a mother) but I'm just gonna feel happy for you. How great that your mom could inspire me. Hug her for me, okay? She sure deserves it.
